Fighting Poverty With Faith Week

Fighting Poverty with Faith: A Week of Action

Resources Now Available!

Rev. Larry Snyder <poverty@catholiccharitiesusa.org>

As part of our Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America, Catholic Charities USA is joining 19 other national faith-based organizations in an interfaith week of action, Sept. 10-Sept. 16.

The goal of the week is to elevate the issue of poverty in the 2008 election debate. It will urge candidates for local, state, and national office to outline what, if elected, they will do in their first 100 days in office to address poverty in America.

Peace Witness at Covington Oktoberfest

Several of us in the IJPC Northern Kentucky group will be witnessing for peace, as we did a couple years ago, during Covington's upcoming Oktoberfest, and we'd like to invite everyone else interested in a more peaceful U.S. foreign policy to join us.

The festival will take place in the Mainstrasse District from Friday through Sunday on September 5, 6, and 7; and during as many of the festival hours on those days that we can staff, we'd like to set up a table on the corner of Fifth and Philadelphia Streets, on the festival's northern perimeter, near the I-75 off ramp, where we will give away anti-war yard signs, ask passersby to sign petitions, and engage people in peaceful dialogue, especially those who oppose our views on war and peace.

Please join us.

If you'd like to participate, find a friend, if possible, to accompany you, pick a two-hour-or-longer time frame to staff the table, and we'll outfit you with nearly everything you need: a table, folding chairs, petitions, yard signs, etc. The only things you'll need to bring yourself, besides a desire to stop the madness, are drinks and perhaps an umbrella to protect you from the sun.

The prime hours for witnessing will be Friday evening from 5:00 to dusk, and Saturday and Sunday between noon and dusk.
